Meet The Founders

Three senior Navy officers with over a decade of combined training at the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center bring their tried-and-true curriculum, along with their unwavering passion, to the private sector to develop great leaders.

Alexander W. Ellermann

Captain Alex Ellermann, USNR (Ret) is a founding partner of Applied IQ, LLC.  He served with the Navy for ten years on active duty and twenty as a Reservist.  He’s a graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, the St. John’s College Graduate Institute, and the U.S. Naval War College.

In the first phase of his naval career, Alex flew helicopters and C-130 transport aircraft.  In the second phase, he commanded a C-130 squadron, an Information/Cyber Warfare unit, and the Reserve Enterprise wing of the Expeditionary Combat Readiness Center.

Additionally, Alex served two tours of duty with the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center.  There, he found a passion for professional development.  He personally wrote the Navy Reserve’s Senior Officer and Intermediate Leadership Courses, and he led the team that wrote the Reserve’s Junior Officer Leadership Course.  He loves this stuff!

In his civilian career, Alex is a training and standardization pilot with a major airline. 

Alex lives in Rhode Island.


Paul W. Jensen

Captain Paul Jensen, USNR (Ret) is a founding partner of Applied IQ, LLC.  He served with the Navy for ten years on active duty and twenty as a Reservist.  He’s a graduate of Northwestern University, Evanston, IL.

In the first phase of his naval career, Paul was a senior EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Technician and Navy Diver.  In the second phase, he commanded an EOD Group 1 Unit and an Ordnance Safety Unit.

Additionally, Paul served two tours of duty with the Naval Leadership and Ethics Center.  There, he found a passion for professional development and passing along what he has learned and experienced during his 30 years of service. This is a personal focus for him!

In his civilian career Paul has built several businesses into a significant group supporting the agricultural and industrial equipment industry. He takes great pride in creating jobs and developing his team. 

Paul lives in Minnesota.


Eric C. Parlette

Captain Eric Parlette, USN, is a founding member of Applied IQ, LLC. He served on active duty in the Navy for nine years as a physician and has continued to serve in the Navy Reserve for an additional 12 years. Eric is a former varsity athlete and magna cum laude graduate of Virginia Tech, as well as a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He joined the United States Navy through the Health Professions Scholarship Program and has been consistently recognized for his academic and leadership achievements throughout his naval career.

In his civilian profession, Eric remains dedicated to helping and serving others through medicine, education, and teaching. His passion for growth, development, and leadership led to his selection as the first medical officer to be part of the Navy Reserve, Naval Leadership and Ethics Center. It was there that the idea for Applied IQ came to fruition.
